700 POKEMON AVAILABLE IN POKEMON GO
How far you have to go in your Pokédex depends on how you look at it. Pokemon Go is constantly adding new Pokemon. At the time of writing, Pokemon Go has 680-700 Pokemon, not including regional variants, Pokemon in multiple forms, or Mega Pokemon. In the primary Pokémon games for the Nintendo console, there are 898 Pokémon in the 'National Pokedex', a complete database of every Pokémon in existence. This excludes Pokemon with the same Pokedek number. Over time, Pokemon Go will feature more than 900 Pokemon. If you're a completionist, you might want to get all of those (although Mega Evolution is temporary). Once you've done that, you'll have almost 700 different types of Pokemon.
Each generation represents the console game in which each Pokemon debuted. Pokemon has 8 generations. Pokemon Go has all of Generations 1 and 2, and most of Generations 3, 4, and 5. Some characters from Generations 6, 7, and 8 appear in the game, although they are rare.

USE AR+ MODE TO SWITCH BETWEEN REAL AND VIRTUAL WORLDS!
Take the RPG outside and search for Pokemon in your environment. Pokemon appear directly in front of you in AR+ mode; catch it with your Pokeball and add it to your Pokedek. In this AR adventure RPG game, you can customize your avatar, join one of three teams, and choose your Pokemon friend from the Pokedex to accompany you on your journey.
